New York: Backstage at The Blonds Fall 2014

Always one of the most theatrical (and fabulous) shows of the week, The Blonds took beauty to a whole new level with their Kitten-with-a Whip inspired Fall 2014 show.

As with most seasons at The Blonds, wigs (specifically out-of-this-world platinum blonde wigs) were a big part of the look created for the runway. But just because the models wore wigs did not mean the pro team at TIGI, lead by Global Creative Director Nick Irwin, had an easy job. Quite the contrary, in order to get the super specific BLONDS look, stylists had to take the wigs through a multi-step process to get them runway ready. Here's what they did:

Stylists began by smoothing model's own hair to bone-straight with a TIGI Pro Tools Iron.  They then liberally applied CATWALK® by TIGI® Look Lock Hairspray from root to tip and gathered hair into a tight, smooth pony tail – securing with an elastic at the crown. Once secured, they sprayed the hair on the head with CATWALK® by TIGI® Session Series Finishing Spray and used a fine tooth comb to smooth all fly-aways. Next, using a flat brush, they back-brushed the pony tail to create enough texture to gather into a loose bun and secured with pins.

Now on to the wigs! They placed the first wig far back on the head, making sure it didn't flatten out the bun. Once the first wig was secured with pins, they placed the second wig on top of the first, positioning it a bit further towards the front of the head and pinned in place. Next, they positioned a pre-cut, clip-in fringe piece to the front of the head. They then cleaned up the wig's bangs and back of hair with sharp shearing scissors to achieve the desired center point. Finally using a soft bristled brush, they smoothed all fly-aways and set with CATWALK® by TIGI® Session Series Finishing Spray

On the MAC side of the room, things were going in an unusual direction as well.

Led by superstar make-up artists Kabuki, the MAC team was doing a classic bombshell look (liquid eye liner, a bright pink pout) that was given a twist of crazy with SUPER BOLD brows that were actually glued on way up and over the model's natural brow bone.

Now on to the nails!

It's no secret that CND are the masters of nail art, and specifically, masters of creating one-of a kind sculpted nails for The Blonds runway shows. Season after season, CND blows our minds with their tiny digit-sized works of art that combine stunning craftsmanship with a healthy dose of humor.
